Hello Doctor I Had An Motorbike Accident On October 14

Question: Hello Doctor
I had an motorbike accident on October 14 which resulted two fractures on my left leg. An Orthopedic surgeon in Indonesia recommended an instant surgery with internal fixation. I did the surgery with ORIF the same day.
I travelled from Indonesia after a week from the surgery day but have been in contact with the surgeon remotely. Two weeks ago the surgeon instructed a partial weight-bearing for two weeks and then to do another x-ray and send him the images.
I have been weight-bearing with the use of my two crutches and did the X-ray two days ago. But unfortunately I lost contact with the doctor as he is not responding to me.
I would like to know the reading of the latest x-ray and what would be the next recommendation? Should I continue the partial weight-bearing after two weeks? Or should I transition to full weight-bearing noting that it is now one month after the surgery and my surgeon hinted that after two weeks of partial weight-bearing I can start full weight-bearing.
I am feeling pain on different parts of the foot especially after walking/exercising. I am also seeing some swelling after exercises and this normally goes away after elevation of the leg. I would like to know if this is normal and for how long this could last.

Lastly I would like to share the recent and previous x-ray images for further analysis and recommendation.

Best Regards;
Hussein Y. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You can start with full weight bearing.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen all the attached images. The fracture has been fixed well and you can start with full weight bearing if it is not painful. The mild swelling that you have is a normal finding and is likely to subside in next few weeks. Do continue with exercises and walking and keep the foot elevated while resting. No need to worry. Having a good calcium rich healthy diet will help in the early healing.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX for the detailed answer.

For the Calcium, I have been taking Calcium tablets since day of surgery in addition to Calcium rich food (milk, meat, etc.)

As for the start of full weight-bearing, do you suggest me to get rid of the two crutches and start walking or first use one crutch only before finally getting rid of the two crutches?

And lastly, from the last three images of the latest X-ray (starting with file names Hussein followed), do you see an improvement in the re-growth of the bones? Any risk with the full weight-bearing? Do you suggest any other X-ray in future? Can I continue using painkillers? Right I am using Tamadol 60mg

Regards

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
To start the full weight bearing, you should first stop using one crutch ( on the side which is normal) and after 2 weeks stop using both the crutches.
There is a definite improvement after the surgery. The bone fragments are well aligned and new bone formation is present.
You can start with full weight bearing now. You can get a repeat X-ray done after 4-6 weeks to check the further development.
You can stop using the pain killers if there is no pain. You can take pain killer on as and when required basis.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Dear Dr XXXXXXX

Further to my earlier follow up questions I would like to know if (based on the current status of my leg according to the x-ray images) there are certain food and drinks that I cannot take for the sake of healing.
What about sexual intercourse.

Thank you

I have posted two last follow up questions above. In summary, I asked if having sexual intercourse is okay provided the proper position of the leg that won't hurt it. I also asked if there are certain food and drinks that are not recommended during the recovery period.

Brief Answer:
Avoid alcohol and tobacco use.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
During the recovery period it is best to avoid alcohol and tobacco use. You should try to have a healthy diet. There are no food restrictions. You can have sexual intercourse as long as it does not produce any extra stress on the leg.
