Good Day: I Recently Received An Invitation To Receive A

Question: Good day:

I recently received an invitation to receive a Covid vaccine shot at a local hospital in Southampton, NY.

Previously, I had seen a neurologist there (Dr. Maghsoudlou), at the time, I was experiencing mild seizures and sleep issues. He prescribed Trokendi xr and Zolpidem, which seemed to minimize the seizures.

In April 2020, I received a positive Covid diagnosis at a drive-through testing facility (near Stony Brook, NY), with fairly mild flu-like symptoms lasting about 3 weeks.

Since December 2020, I have been experiencing an increasing number of seizures, ringing in the ears, blurry vision, tingling and numbness, and difficulty grasping things.
I'm not sure if this is related to Covid, or the previous seizure problem, or possible effects from toxic waste exposure at a superfund site in the late 1980s (with continuous exposure to dioxin, volatile organic compounds, SVOCs, furans, pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls, and metals) .

My questions:
1. Should I have any concerns about the Covid immunization shot at this point, given the previous Covid diagnosis, and worsening symptoms?
2. Until I can receive a more thorough evaluation, do you recommend my not traveling or driving?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
I think you should avoid driving for now.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the query here at the "Ask a Doctor" service.

I have read your query, I saw the reports that you uploaded too.

Your symptoms are not specific to be linked to the previous COVID-19 infection, but, since the long-term effects are still not well understood this possibility cannot be excluded entirely.

Other possible explanations include adverse effects of the drugs that you are using, toxicity, etc.

In my opinion, a brain MRI is necessary to evaluate any brain-related conditions such as encephalopathy, etc.

About your questions, I think that COVID-19 immunization is safe even in your case.

Since there is an increase in seizure activity, it is advisable to avoid long traveling or driving, until a diagnosis is achieved and treatment is started.

Discuss with your Neurologist these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
