For The Past Year I've Been On Ambien 5 Mg

Question:
For the past year I've been on Ambien
5 mg to help me sleep. Recently, it hasn't been working well; it's taking me hours to get to sleep and I wake up around 4 in the morning, so I'm switching to Lunesta to try it out and see if it works better. Will there be problems switching from my original medication to this one/will I still be able to sleep?

Brief Answer:
Yes, you can change your sleeping pill.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
Ambien is having Zolpidem.
Lunesta is having Eszopiclone. It is newer and better molecule as compare to Zolpidem.
So you can can definitely change your sleeping pill and start taking Lunesta.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
