For About 6 Weeks, When I Have Skin On Skin

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Jul 2019
Question: For about 6 weeks, when I have skin on skin contact with myself, after 1-2 minutes I’m stuck together. If I hold an object for the same amount of time, I’ll stick to that object. This happens on any skin from head to toe. The steering wheel drives me nuts on a long drive. If I look down at my phone for 1-2 minutes, my neck folds stick together. If I keep my arms/legs folded, I’m sticky in the creases where it folds. I’m really sticky when waking up in the morning when skin on skin has been touching for a while. After a few seconds in any situation, the stickiness goes away. It will return to the same area under the same circumstances. When I get water splashed on my dry skin, that spot will be sticky until it’s completely dry. My dermatologist has no idea, and I’m starting to panic a little. I’m a 64 year old male with well controlled diabetes for 2 years, sugar is rarely high and never too low. I’m on no new medication before/after this started. Please give me some idea on what is going on, as I am having a hard time dealing with this.

Brief Answer:
Use an absorbent dusting powder

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Perhaps the sticky feeling is due to the trapping of moisture from occlusion of skin folds. I suggest you to use an absorbent dusting powder in your skin folds and hopefully that would solve the issue.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

I don’t think I’ve communicated the depth of the problem. Something (fungus, mold ,infection) is affecting my skin from head to toe. I am always sticky, WATER makes me sticky. This is not normal. I use Gold Bond powder, and even that doesn’t help. I’m considering a visit to the XXXXXXX Clinic, which is 5 hours from home. I need to find the cause of my body wide stickiness....powder only covers up the problem, and not for long. This is a medical condition that I need to find the root cause of, and I can’t find an answer to this problem. Do you know if a medical condition that can cause this or may be contributing to this ? This is not a mere nuisance, this is a problem that is causing me considerable stress and concern. I’ve read about “Sticky Skin Syndrome “ (acquired cutaneous adherence). Is this a possibility ?

Brief Answer:
Regarding sticky skin

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Sticky skin syndrome is also a result of excessive moistness of skin from sweat. There can be several underlying causes of sticky skin syndrome. One of which could be hypoglycemia from aggressive blood sugar control in diabetics. Do you feel that you sweat a lot in body folds?
Take care.

I don't notice sweating in the body folds, the the problem exists at any point on my body, not just in the folds. Regarding hypoglycemia, I've actually never been too low on a sugar reading I've taken, so I know that's not it. I'm really wondering/hoping that it's a fungus issue or something similar. Since I've had no luck with dermatologists....is there another type of doctor I should see to help figure this out ? I'm really at a loss here as to what to do....

Brief Answer:
Regarding sticky folds

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I don't think that this is a fungus issue. Fungal infections of skin are itchy and present as scaly, itchy patches. Moreover, sweating doesn't have to be profuse to manifest as stickiness. I still think that you should continue with an absorbent dusting powder in body folds and perhaps try an antiperspirant like 10% aluminium hexa chloride.
Take care.
