Question: Finished a course of oral lamisil in September. In October after a trip to beach all ten nails started peeling. Now I have chronic paroynichia. I am taking Keflex twice a day and putting Lotrimin AF cream on nails. Nothing seems to help. I am desperate for help. Would vinegar soaks or any kind of soaks and vicks vapor rub help? Tea tree oil? Honey? Anything at all?

Brief Answer:
Consult with Dermatologist...as it may indicate recurrence.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice. If possible kindly attach images so that I can get better idea.

As per your history, it may be indicate recurrence due to trip to Beach.

Please let me know do you have any discharge from nails, fever?

For further assessment, I would suggest you to consult with Dermatologist for detailed clinical examination. He may procure complete hemogram, discharge culture and sensitivity (if discharge present) as per evaluation.

Till then continue lotrimine AF cream. You may also require oral antifungal medications after consultation. Maintain proper hygiene. Avoid long contact with water.

You can use vinegar soaks and tree table oil as it is helpful in mild infection and give temporary relief.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further...

There is no discharge from the nails. They are red and become painful each day so I take ibuprophen. The doctor did not want to give any more oral lamisil since I finished a 3 month course in September for nail fungus and my liver tests were good. I would like to take another course of lamisil. Would triple antibiotic cream or hydrocortisone help? Is Lotrimin AF the best over the counter cream for this or is there a precscription topical that would be better? Also, what would you suggest for toenail fungus? I am very depressed over this.
Thank you very much for your advice.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.

As per your history I would suggest you to consult with dermatologist for detailed examination, as there may be recurrence of fungal infection.

For that you may require oral antifungal medication after consultation.

Topical ointment containing antifungal, antibacterial and hydrocortisone may help.

Along with that avoid prolonged contact with water and dust.

Hope I have answered your query, let me know if I can assist you further.
