Does Light Treatment Improve Or Worsen Vitiligo?
Question: My wife was diagnosed with Vitiligo two years back. She started using some medications by going to Sun every day, she saw some pigmentation coming on to the face but soon she started seeing white again.
It has been 2 years, she is seeing white spots and now the white spots are getting increased. As suggested by the doctor, she is going to Light therapy since last 3 months. Even with the light theraphy, she did not see the color coming back but started seeing new white spots.
Is it common to get back the color within 3 months of light treatment (3 days weekly for 3 months) or do she need to continue these treatments further ?
Is there any chance of getting Vitiligo increased with the light treatment ? because we started seeing the new white spots while she is on the light treatment. Can you suggest any precautions to stop spreading the Vitiligo ?

Light treatment is effective in the management of vitiligo. I would recommend her to continue the treatment for another 2 months to see its response.
Vitiligo won't increase with light treatment. I would recommend her to take oral treatment as well if her vitiligo is spreading. If I was her treating doctor, I would recommend her to take oral steroids like tablet Prednisolone per kg body weight on 2 consecutive days in a week for 12-16 weeks.
It is a prescription drug and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.
