Question: Does hypnotherapy help with severe insomnia? I%E2%80%99ve been on nearly all medications for this situation. Some work for a short time but eventually they all quit working. This situation has been going on for 3 years. it began after a very tramatic sudden illness/ icu stay which included being intibated and an extreme amount of medications being administered. I have been seeing a physchologist for the anxiety/ ptsd for a couple years now. I do not have insurance and will be paying out of pocket and want to spend my money wisely.

Brief Answer:
Better visit a psychiatrist.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I don't believe that hypnotherapy may be much useful.
I think you may need to consult a psychiatrist to talk about medications you have been taking and about anxiety and ptsd.
I can recommend you to use melatonin which can be found without a prescription, over the counter, and it is a natural remedie for sleep disorders.
A psychiatrist is the only person you can meet to give you the right treatment and not to spend money experimenting different drugs and supplements.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
