Do Proper Rest And Special Boots Help In Treating Foot Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: Hi. I have been having terrible pain in my left foot...middle 3 toes for about 2-3 monthes. I work and am on my feet all day. I wear special shoes with orthodics made for my shoes. By the end of the day, my foot hurts so bad, I can't wait to get my shoes off. I had an appt. yesterday with my podiatrist. He took 3 x-rays and examined my toes. The middle one hurt the worst. He stated that I have severe sprains. The ligaments are very sore on all 3. He prescibed for me to rest and I got a boot to wear. He told me to stay off of my feet for 4-5 days. I do not have any recollection of hurting it. I had surgery on my right foot last year, in late August. Something with a tight achiellies tendon recession and something else. My question is, do you agree with my doctors orders, to rest, ice and elevate for 4-5 days. I am 62 and have been working for the PO FOR 31 years. I have had numerous surgeries, includiing lower back lamenectomy/discectomy. Foot surgery, carpul tunnel surgery. I have problem with bad varicose veins and have had bleeds, 4 surgerys. I have burcitis in my right hip in January I had the new shot that they give and I also have more degeneration in lower back discs. I am seeing my doctor in a few weeks for arthritis in my left knee which also has a 'ball' of fluid on top that need to be drained. Am I being treated right for my sprained toes now and do you thing I could be a candidate for disability from the PO and also for XXXXXXX Disability Benefits? I also have regular meds that my doctor has given me for pain.
Looking forward to hearing from you. XXXXXXX L. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Toe pain can be relieved with rest and orthosis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I agree with your doctor that you need rest and special shoes to wear. That shoes should have silicon insole so that there should not be pressure on toe. Along with that I would suggest warm water fomentation not ice.
You can also get steroid injection in toes.
I do not think toe pain will make you eligible for any disability certificates. You may get few days medical leave at most.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
