Do Zapiz Or Prothaiden Increase Blood Sugar Level?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Oct 2014
Question: I am taking zapiz 0.25 and Protheoden 25 daily at night for past one year. Usually my fasting blood sugar level was 90 and PPBS was below 120. But recently when I tested the FBS was 108 and PPBS was 159. Whether there is any possibiity of intake of these medicines will increase blood sugar level?

Brief Answer:
Suspect Nexito

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.

Welcome and thanks for giving me an opportunity to address your query.

Your fasting and postprandial sugars are well within the normal limits though they are on a higher side when compared to your previous reading. Both Zapiz(clonazepam) and Prothaiden(dosulepin) do not influence/cause any alteration in the blood sugars.

Having reviewed the above medications I were to suspect Nexito 10 which might have probably increased your sugars. I would monitor blood sugars more frequently in my patients taking nexito.

Another possibility is, this can be due to variation in intake of food, activity, time of taking the reading(ideally PPBS has to be recorded 2 hours post meal), time of administration of diabetes medication(if any) etc. These variations are equally important when we compare the readings of blood sugars.

Hope this helps and answers your query.
