Dear Doctors, I Am A Bit Concerned About An Event

Question: Dear doctors,
I am a bit concerned about an event I went through this morning.

I was walking on the street and a I guy that lies on a wheelchair aksed me to help him put his feet back to the wheelchair support. His foot was not covered, i.e. not wearing shoes, and I was able to see some sores on them. My first reaction was to say "Sorry, I don't know what is your feet.".Then he offered me gloves to touch. I accept the gloves, but for that I had to help him to catch them at his Backpack. I noticed the backpack was wet, perhaps by sweat since I was around noon and around 30ÂșC (86F).
After that I was able to help him. My first reaction was to wash my hands. I did that twice before arrive home, at park that is near my home. When I arrive home I cleaned my hands with alcohol and washed twice again.
He has a condition (WHICH I DON'T KNOW) that demands him to use an urinary tube.

My question is, am I be at any risk somehow?
I never touched this guy skin, but my concern was about the sweating I felt.
I really sorry if this is seem "over reacted", but note that I've been diagnosed with OCD "THinking I might be ill"

Please also note, I am Brazil, if that matters.

Brief Answer:
You do not seem at risk of serious infections- details below

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor' service,

I carefully read your query and understand your concern.

There are not many infections that can be transmitted through sweat. The only that may be considered are skin infections such as staphylococcus and streptococcus infection that do have a risk of transmission through sweat. On the other hand, the fact that you washed your hands should protect you well from these infections as well.

So, to conclude:
- I would recommend you to not worry about the episode you explained. There are only small chances of some skin infections to be transmitted by sweat and in your case, this chance is even smaller due to you being cautious and washing your hands.
-If you have any complaints, it is best to see your doctor- even though I think the chance for this is very very slim.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj
