Question: Dear doctor,

My son who is 30 days old is crying continuously since yesterday night. We asked a pediatrician over phone and she asked us to administer Colicaid 0.5 ml to the kid.

We have given once at 2 PM today and the kid stopped crying and slept for a while. Now, after he got up he is crying again and we gave another 0.5 ml at 6:60 PM but the kid is still crying.

Kindly suggest if we have to go to the hospital and see a doctor?
Also, please let us know how many times we can administer 0.5 ml of Colicaid in a day with how much gap between each dose?

Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Don't worry, observe for some time

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for asking on this platform

I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
Crying is common in this age and most commonly due to colic. Other common causes of crying are hunger or pain due to some insect bite/ear ache.
Colicaid helps in relieving colic and can be given twice a day.
Burp him well as flatulence may also lead to uneasiness. You may give paracetamol drop 15mg/kg, it will help if he is having any kind of pain.
Biogaia probiotic drops 5 drops a day for one months helps in maintaining healthy gut bacteria and thus relieves colic or abdominal discomfort/flatulence.
I would like to know if baby is breast fed or bottle fed. If breast fed please check if mother is having any food which forms gas like cabbage, brinjal, beans etc. You may try taking the baby out on terrace or in garden to change the environment as this works well many a times.
Don't get worried if baby is sleeping comfortably and having feeds well in between. If baby is crying persistently for more than 3 hours please take him to a doctor for clinical evaluation.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards

Brief Answer:
Hope baby is well now

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for follow up

I hope the baby is doing well now. Intermittent crying is normal in this age and can be manged by some general measures which I have mentioned already.
Give Biogaia Protectis for one month and Colicaid drop intermittently when needed. Ask mother to avoid food which are prone for flatulence.

Wishing for good health of your baby.
Regards
