Could Swelling At The Back Of The Head After Taking IVIG Infusion For Myasthenia Gravis Be Due To Mumps?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Oct 2023
Question: Hi! I recently had an IVIG infusion (Saturday) for Myasthenia Gravis. I always feel ill for a few days. I refer to this as IVIG flu. On Wednesday the glands under my ear on the right side started to swell, this morning the left side was also swollen. I am dizzy, have a horrible headache that then just becomes bothersome at times, weak, unable to sleep and slightly confused. I have had aseptic meningitis from this infusion before. This feels nothing like it, except for the headache. Another strange thing, my husband (54) and daughter (25) have similar symptoms. They don't have the swelling in their neck, but on the back of their heads, center. I have several other immune system diseases. Could we all have mumps? Seems strange in this day and age, but I look like i have mumps. I have never had them and assume i was vaccinated. Thanks for your time.

Brief Answer:
Unlikley to be mumps. Upload an image for review!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Ca you upload an image for review? Would be very unlikely to be mumps as you righty mentioned in this age. I will want to lean more towards the drug but would be unlikely if other family members do have similar symptoms.

In the interim, upload an image of your face to me for review.

Brief Answer:
This isn't mumps.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This isn't mumps. Looks more of diffuse swelling of the soft tissue around the neck and maybe face. This will regress spontaneously. You should only seek further care if there are breathing or swallowing difficulties.

Let me know if you have any further worries.
