Question: is this occult blood test report my doctor wrote occult blood test 3 consecutive days and i was asked to give sample for only one day and then this report was given but the doctor said seeing the report everything is normal and you have mild gastritis , he even performed my upper gi and ultrasound and blood test after i complained of black stool 3 days ago , now my stool seems to be normal so should i agree with him and take medication for gastritis or should i go for another fecal OB test ?

Brief Answer:
in my opinion, there is no need for a second stool test..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Based on your description, you had black stools. This is most likely the results of diet / medication or upper GI bleed. With upper GI scopy and ultrasound abdomen
your doctors would have ruled out serious bleeding. Now, since the stool has returned to normal, you need not be concerned. There is no real need to repeat stool occult test.

But incase you are still worried, there is no harm in repeating the test.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Brief Answer:
if pain persists, report back to the doctor...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The "pulling sensation" that you notice is not specific to any known gut ailment. But yes, gastritis can cause some discomfort and pain in the stomach area (upper abdomen). The fact that upper GI scopy did not see any polyp, you can be rest assured there is no polyp yet in the upper GI gut.

If the sensation is lower down and if it continues to persist, report back to the doctor / gastroenterologist. Further test can be performed.

At this point, there is nothing to suggest ominous condition. Continue with the treatment suggested.

Hope I am clear. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms could be related to gastritis...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Gastritis comes with wide range of symptoms. The common symptom is pain in the upper abdominal area. But it can also cause symptoms of bloating / fullness, retrosternal chest pain, nausea, urge to pass stool and so on.

Your current symptoms may all be related to gastritis per se (as your doctor pointed out). Nevertheless, if symptoms persist despite medications, do get back to your doctor.

Hope I am clear. I will be pleased to answer any more questions you have. If all your questions are answered, please close the discussion and review.
