Brief Answer:
Needs a spermogram to evaluate the quality and functionality of the sperm.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Normally 90% of couples conceive within 12 months or regular unprotected intercourse and another 5% will conceive in the next year. There are several causes for this.

Local testicle trauma or inflammation may effect the function but to make sure if your husband is producing enough sperm he needs to have a test called spermogram which will give information on the amount of sperm in ml, number of spermatozoids per ml and how many of them are mobile and have normal structure.

This is generally the first test that is done in couples that are not conceiving in one year of regular unprotected intercourse.
If the spermogram comes out in normal range than tests that evaluate ovulation and tubal function on the woman are the next ones.
Meanwhile you need to take folic acid daily to make sure if pregnancy happens it is a healthy pregnancy. Sometimes prenatal vitamins are preferred as they contain all the needed vitamins and supplements a pregnant woman needs in a day.

To conclude I would say:
1. Your husband needs to do a spermogram to evaluate the amount of the sperm and the quality and functionality of the sperm cells (spermatozoids). Sometimes repeating it a second time is recommended if the first test does not come out normal.
2. If the above test is normal than you will need to have tests to evaluate the ovulation and tubal function
3. Meanwhile, please take folic acid or prenatal vitamins daily to make sure you take the daily vitamins and supplements needed for a healthy pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
