Hi,

Thanks for posting the query.

The requirements of children and their food habits vary to a great extent, and to plan a diet for your child, we need some more information, like his current weight and height, and description of his food habits like what he likes and does not like in food or if he has or have had any kind of food related allergy.

Also, it would be helpful for us to formulate time based diet plan, if you could provide some information about his current routine, like what time he wakes and his meal timings.

waiting for your reply.

Regards,
Meenakshi

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for the reply.

Children of your son’s age experiment a lot with things around them, and this sometime affects their routine as well. This might be the reason behind his changed sleep pattern.

It is fine if he is getting up earlier now to enjoy the morning walk with you, this would also help in developing healthy lifestyle routine. If he is feeling tired in school, you can send him off to bed an hour earlier in the night.

His weight as per his age is good, and as long as it does not decrease drastically, there is nothing much to worry about. The eating habits are developed in the formative years and thus it is important to ensure that the child develops a positive relation with the food. Include all foods in his diet, even the ones that you may not like personally.

Introduce foods slowly and respect his taste preferences. Fluids are very important and should be given in different forms like tender coconut water , lemon juice, fresh fruit juices, soups and buttermilk . a frequent meal pattern, where some food is given every 3 hours would work.

Here is a sample plan for him:

Early morning: Milk (use full cream milk. And you may add supplement to it).

Breakfast: idli / upma/ Dalia/ poha/ plain dosa etc may be given. You can start with corn flakes and whet flakes with milk..

Post breakfast: nuts and dry fruits – 1 handful (these may also be given in grounded form with milk )

Mid-morning: fruits / fruit juice / fruit shake ( choose from fruits that he prefers to rake and keep rotating them)

Lunch: 1 chapatti with sabji and curd / ½ cup rice with Dal or Sambhar + curd and few pieces of cucumber or tomato.

Evening snacks: Milk ( with supplement) and 2-3 bis.

Late evening: vegetable soup/ green leafy vegetable soup / fruit custard / porridge etc.

Dinner : same as lunch ( you may also include the tifin items)

Post Dinner : Milk with ground dry fruits

It is important to include all the food groups, so don’t forget to add 2 portions of vegetable and at least 2 portions of dals per day. As mentioned above keep the liquids as fillers.
It is equally important that you also set good examples for your child. Eat your meals on time and avoid saying anything negative about the food in front of him. discourage fast food in the house as a rule. carbonated beverages and preserved foods should be avoided. Ensure that he gets sufficient time for outdoor games, this would keep his muscles active and help his body gain weight and improve XXXXXXX functions.

Hope this would help.

Brief Answer:
maintain a diet and exercise routine...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Office and home related stress is very common these days and the best way to ensure that it does not affect your health is to adopt a positive approach and healthy lifestyle.

Your BMI is 21.6 Kg/m2, indicating that you have healthy weight for your height and there isn't an urgent need to gain weight. However, maintaining this weight is very important.

The market these days is stuffed with numerous products, that claim to be the healthiest. May be... ! but nothing can beat the goodness of the home made food. Try and include a variety of vegetable and salads in your diet, spinach, methi, beetroot, bajra, jawar, dry peas, regular oats ( not the branded ones), curry leaves, banana, guava, watermelon etc... all these are good sources of different nutrients.
Milk and its products, roasted channa and seeds of fruits like pumpkin and watermelon are good sources of protein and calcium. include the greens of turnip and beetroot in your food preparation, these are XXXXXXX in fiber and also provide the essential fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Don't forget the exercises, an active body uses all that its supplied with. get enough sleep and practice meditation, for a calm mind and soul.

hope this helps.

stay fit.

Meenakshi
