Brief Answer:
Aspirin 100 mg is quite enough, offering sufficient anti-platelet effects.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service!

I understand your concern and would like to emphasize that first before discussing on treatment switch, it is necessary to clarify the reason why Eliquis is recommended to your therapy.

This is because Eliquis is an anticoagulant and Aspirin an antithrombotic. It is well known that an anticoagulant offers better protection against clotting risks compared to a simple antiplatelet agent (like Aspirin).

However, as the risk of bleeding is considerable while on anticoagulant therapy, it is wise to switch to and an anti-platelet, like Aspirin.

Coming to this point, I would explain that 100 mg Aspirin is quite enough to satisfy such a purpose.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

In case of any further questions, feel free to ask me again.

Kind regards,

The reason they put me on eliquis was because I went into a fib. But they shocked my heart and now I'm averaging pulse rate ar about 57 and blood pressure average 135 over 67 and it's been that way now for a month. But the eliquis has my left arm bleeding all over. I can even go into a store without bleeding coming thru the skin. I have been on aspirin everince my hip replacements and my open heart surgery that was performed in 2014. Can I just switch over to aspirinlike tomorrow. It would sure help

I had afib and for that reason they shocked my heart and now my pulse is average 57 BP 135 over 67. Had both hips replaced and open heart surgery 2014 and they have never used more than 81 mg aspirin. The Eliquis is giving me bleeding problems. That’s why I want to change

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

I understand that your current Eliquis treatment poses you at risk of bleeding.
Coming to this point, I think that your idea of switching to Aspirin is quite rationale.

You may change Eliquis for Aspirin from tomorrow with a daily dose of 100 mg.
This would for sure avoid those disturbing episodes of bleeding and provide a more reasonable strategy for your chronic antithrombotic therapy.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend!

Best regards,

Dr. Iliri
