Can Menstrual Bleeding Be Stopped By Starting A New Pack Of Birth Control Pills?
Question: My period just started today. I just completed all of the active pills in the most recent pack of my birth control.Can i stop my period by starting a new pack?
My period just started today. I do take birth control and just finished taking the last active pill in the pack. If I start taking a new pack tonight, is it possible to stop my period or is it likely to cause more problems than its worth (breakthrough bleeding, prolonged lighter period, etc). I have been on birth control for over a year. Is there anything else I can do to at least make my period end sooner?

It is not possible to stop the period bleeding immediately once it has started.
You can reduce the number of days of bleeding by starting your next pack of active pills now. It will not cause any problems.
In addition take mafenamic acid ( Ponstan) 500mg three times daily or Tranaxemic acid 1 gm three times daily to reduce the bleeding. These tablets need to be taken after meals.
