Posted on Fri, 10 Nov 2023
Question: Good Morning doctor, It has been over one month I have some gritty feeling inside my both eyes, redness of eyes, and swelled lower eyelids, actually I consulted a opthalmologist he preferred some antibiotics moxicillin drops and olpatidine drops etc. Am using these drops for over a month but the symptoms did not subside even it progressed. Doctor said it was a dust allergy conjunctivitis, but am not exposed to dust. I recently had a typhoid fever and cold 10 days ago. Am sending you few pics of the eye, can u have a look and tell me what was the problem.

Brief Answer:

Please attach the photo.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The persistent pain and redness with a gritty sensation in the eye can be due to an infection or allergy or a foreign body in the eye. There are no images attached to the query.

It would be helpful if you attach a close up picture of your eye. Local steroid ointment or eye drops can help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:

Dry eye.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have gone through your query and attached reports in detail, you are suffering from dry eye syndrome.

Dry eye syndrome is the most common cause of a gritty feeling in your eyes. Dry eye syndrome often causes a XXXXXXX gritty sensation in the morning that usually gets worse throughout the day.

Dry eyes of varying severity can cause uncomfortable, irritating symptoms.

If your eyes are dry, your eyes may burn much more than they itch. Your vision may also seem to fluctuate a lot and it may take a while to have a good, clear vision in the morning.

Also, your eyes don’t produce as many tears during the night because your eyes are closed and the tear film is unstable and has a lack of quality and quantity.

Although artificial tears are a great start to treating dry eyes, what’s more, important is the type and brand of artificial tear being used as specified by your eye doctor (you have already started).

You may have to instil a gel or ointment into your eyes before you go to sleep at night for more protection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:

Eye drops alone are not sufficient.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The whitish change in the conjunctiva in the right eye can be related to dryness.

Only the drops are not sufficient sometimes as they need to be used every two hours for some relief.

It is better to use a gel or ointment at night after consulting an ophthalmologist.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
