Question: 1. Can an angiogram cause chronic nerve damage in your legs?
2. Should you have an angiogram if you have varicose veins?
3. If you are told that you might have an aneurysm and if given an angiogram for that purpose. Can this procedure cause the aneurysm to rupture and cause other disabilities?

After going through your medical details I understand your concern for your health and I would like to tell you that Angiogram doesn’t cause any chronic damage as it is a test not any operation. Test can be done even if you have Varicose veins as there is no link between an Angiogram and varicose veins.

My symptom is leg burning for two years .My angiogram was given because the doctor thought I had an aneurysm and I did not have one. So what is causing my leg to burn? I was admitted in the hospital for a stroke and numbness on my right side. The numbness is gone but now I have burning after the angiogram was done. I did not have this before the test. So I believe it was this angiogram test that is causing the burning pain in my leg. Whatelse can it be?

Angiogram usually doesn’t cause such complications like burning sensations for such a long time. The other possible causes of burning sensation could be
1. Diabetes
2. Neuropathies
3. Lumbo-sacral spine compressions/ Pathology
As you didn’t mention any history of diabetes so that cause is already ruled out. So for further evaluation I would like to suggest you to get an LS spine X-ray done and consult a spine specialist for evaluation . If he doesn’t find any gross abnormality that could be causing trouble then you should take the help of a Neurologist for evaluation.

You said an angiogram usually doesn't cause my type complication(burning) for such a period of time but can it rarely cause this to happen. My neurologist told me my case is rare is that what he meant referring to the angiogram? I don't have diabetes,
I was seen by a bone and joint specialist and he confirmed there was no problem there. No neuropathy.The only conculsion must be the angiogram cause I was fine before the test and the only thing I had was numbness from the stroke but I was fine because the numbness would evently go away right.
