Can Singulair,Claritin And Patanol Be Taken For Postnasal Drip?
Question: I was prescribed Fluticasone Propionate for postnasal drip in January. I have asthma and hayfever for a month beginning about now. Can I add my usual Singulair, Claritin and Patanol regimen for that time period? I have had no adverse reactions to Singulair in the past when taken for a month. My allergen is ash tree pollen, and there are two ash trees nearby.

I am replying to your information. I do not use asthma inhalers as a general rule because they irritate my throat and affect my voice. They are used only rarely, and as a last choice. The allergy problem only lasts from three to four weeks. I was concerned about adding the nasal spray to the other allergy products because there might be an undesirable drug interaction. You assured me there would not be so my question was answered. Thank you.

If you are not using any inhaler for asthma as the contents irritate the throat, similar symptoms can be there because of trickling down of nasal spray contents down the throat. But this problem will be more pronounced if you use more than one puff on each side which usually is not the case.
Also as a precautionary measure, just rinse your throat with a sip of water 20-25 minutes after spray.
As for drug interaction of nasal spray with your drug regimen, there is nothing to worry.
