Can Levemir Be Used As A Substitute For Lantus Solostar?

Question: Hi, I currently use injectable Lantus Solostar to control my type 2 diabetes. My current supplier is no longer stocks this and a need to find a comparable product. I trying to find a substitute. I use 45 ml per day. Would Levimir be a good sub and would the dosages be similar?

Yes, Levemir is a good alternative, it is similar to Lantus but has a slightly shorter duration.

If Lantus covers 24 hours, Levemir can finish its action in 18 hours, that is why when high doses are needed (like in your case) it is recommended to be divided in 2 injections (22 Ui every 12 hours).

The total dose will remain the same.
