Can Fluvoxamine, Ability And Especially Lamictal Affect HCG Levels?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Oct 2023
Question: Is my psychiatrist correct in saying that my medications (fluvoxamine, ability and especially lamictal) can effect hCG levels, causing me to have false negative blood and urine pregnancy tests when I, in face could actually be pregnant? I am also overweight, could this contribute to a false negative? I am nearly 2 weeks late for my period and have sore, swollen breasts for the first time ever as well as cramping in my lower back and abdomen, nausea and headaches. I suspect I am approx. 4 weeks along. Please help!

Brief Answer:
Medicines will not cause false negative pregnancy test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The medications that you are taking- fluvoxamine, ability and lamcital are not likely to cause a false negative pregnancy test even if you are pregnant. If your urine test is negative then you can get your serum beta HCG levels evaluated to rule out pregnancy. The delay in periods can be due to a hormonal disturbance or stress.
I hope this answers your query.
