Question: Beginning at 1:00 on Sunday, November 4, I woke with sweats, chills, and diarrhea. I originally thought it might be a reaction to diablo shrimp I ate at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3. It is now 6:00 a.m. on November 5th and my symptoms have not abated at all. In the last thirty hours I've had a scrambled egg and a piece of toast. My back and stomach are in severe pain and I have no diarhhea anymore as I haven't had any food but I feel dehydrated, weak, and nauseous. I have a very painful headache, lower abdomen pain, and middle of the back pain (though that could be because I've been in bed for the past 30 hours which is totally out of my realm! I feel almost disoriented and can't concentrate.

Brief Answer:
Acute bacterial gastroenteritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms you are describing are mostly suggestive of Bacterial gastroenteritis (commonly called food poisoning intake of shrimps is again suggestive of bacterial infection). Chills are suggestive of the presence of bacteria. Its a natural way by which by contracting muscles body generates heat to kill bacterias. Acute gastroenteritis causes inflammation in intestines, therefore, every moment of intestine would cause pain or spasm. As intestines are inflamed a large amount of mucus would be secreted along with improper water absorption causing stools to be watery.

Stool analysis and culture are required to confirm the diagnosis. Management is with antibiotics (usually Rifaximin is given) for which you will need a prescription. So please be advised to follow up with the urgent care.

Meanwhile, drink plenty of water and electrolyte containing drinks like Gatorade. Follow soft diet. BRAT (Banana, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast) diet will be easier on your tummy.
No egg or high protein diet.
Treatment-(if you can manage a prescription)
Get Electral/ORS solution from local store/pharmacy and give him at least 200ml after every motion/vomit or sip it as much as you are comfortable with the loss of sodium and potassium from the body causes cramping pain etc so immediate repletion of these electrolytes are necessary. (It's over the counter)
Tab Rifaximin 550 mg once daily 9 a.m
Cap Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily in morning empty stomach 6 a.m
Tab Buscopan 10 mg twice daily 9 a.m-9 p.m
Cap econorm thrice daily(probiotic).

Monitor your blood pressure and pulse in case if upper pressure is less then 90 mm of Hg or pulse is more then 110/min move to nearest emergency department to get i.v resuscitation.
Hope i was helpful,
Thank you and follow-ups are welcome.
