Are Vomiting And Diarrhea Due To Food Poisoning?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Aug 2022
Question: Hi. I ate a chicken thigh and leg from a very questionable market in south Los Angeles about a month ago...in hindsight, pretty stupid I know. Anyway, it didn't feel like typical food poisoning but did throw up and have diarrhea for a few days. I continued to feel nauseous for a couple of weeks.
Now, when I eat [and I eat pretty healthy.... i.e. today I had salmon and a nectarine], I still get nauseous and soft stool to near diarrhea.
Any thoughts???

Brief Answer:
Probably postinfectious irritable bowel syndrome.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You had a gastrointestinal infection after eating the chicken thighs. The condition that you have now is known as a post infectious irritable bowel syndrome.

Some advice that I can give to you are:
- Continue taking over the counter medications such as Pepto Bismol
- Take probiotics daily
- Drink liquids
- Avoid sugar and spicy foods in general
- Follow the BRAT DIET with bananas, apple juice, rice and toast

If the symptoms will not get better in time examinations must be done for better treatment.

Hope my answer was helpful. If you have any other question Ill be glad to help.
