Does Teething Cause High Fever?

My son is 6 months old and for the past 2 days been running high fevers of 39.8deg. I have been giving him panado for babies or a ponstan sipository which helps temporarily. I'm a bit concerned. He doesn't seem to have a runny nose or cough. Could it be teething? And what could I do to help him
