Colonoscopy Done, No Bowel Movement, Twisted Bowels. Treatment?

I had a colonoscopy one week ago and I am concerned because I have not moved my bowels since before the colonoscopy. And, I actually am not even feeling the urge to move my bowels. I have never had this problem before I had this procedure. My test was just for screening purposes because of my age (I am 51). The doctor did not see any polps or cancer, but he told me that I had twisted bowels and he wants me to have another colonoscopy in 4-5 years. He recommended that I have 3 hemocults per year until then. So, why would I lose the ability to have a bowel movement. It is very disconcerting to think that everything that I have eaten over the past week is piled up inside my body. What should I do now? I am afraid that I will become sick from food poisoning.

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

Constipation may be due to decreased motility. For this take lots of fruits and vegetables and liquid in your diet. May add psyllium fibres also. If not relieved by these measures then add a laxative with a combination of milk of magnesia, liquid paraffin and sodium picosulphate like syrup cremaffin plus.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
