What Causes Swollen Eyelid ?

My 11 year old daughter woke up this morning with her eyelid swollen (almost shut) and it is purpleish color. I tried to see if there was a sty in it but did not find one. She says that it is painful. What could be causing this. Last year my son went through this but his eyelid did not look that bad. They treated him five times for pink eye which it was not. The school did a classrom clean out which seemed to work after he missed about 3 weeks of school.

Hello
It seems from the history that your daughter is having swollen eyelid with pain.
This indicates a inflammatory lesion of the eye lids like blepharitis or cellulitis.
The treatment of the condition is by use of antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs. Use of hot compression and analgesics provides symptomatic relief.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.

Thank you
