Severe Back Pain. What Are Treatment Options?

Hi,
Three days ago I had severe back pain while I was sitting on the floor for long time (usually I don’t sit on the floor), I tried to get up to the sofa and sat there and I started feeling heavy giddiness and I thought I should go to the outside to take some fresh air and when I walked I passed out for may be 1 or two mins.
After that I had problem in my lower back and was not able to bend, when on bed I was not able to move my body for turning at the sides.
Second day it improved and third day it improved even further but still I am not able to bend enough to tie my shoes.
Also I am feeling light headed since this incident, which I am more worried about.
I checked by BP yesterday and it was 144/89.
I have taken appointment with doctor which is after one week, but I am wondering it should be OK to wait this long.

Hi,
You developed severe back pain while you were sitting on the floor, while you get up to sit in the sofa you got giddiness even after sitting in the sofa. You thought of going for walk to get fresh air, there also giddiness was not relieved.
After that within 2 days almost your giddiness is gone, where as you were not able to bend and you were not able to move your body either side even in lying posture. Now you are not able to bend even to tie your shoes and you also light headed which worries you.
Yesterday Your BP was 144/89
Too many questions from my side - what is your age, are you hypertensive, DM, IHD if so what are their control level.
For anybody sudden change position may produce giddiness. but you say back pain also which persists till now - needs MRI lumbar and Cervical Spines.
Regarding light headedness- blood sugar, BP, ECG caotid doppler may be needed.
All the above conditions some how or other form a part of light headedness.
I have mentioned all possible reasons - you consult your dr,investigate and take treatment.
Best wishes

Welcome to HCM.
Back muscle sprain is the most common reason for back pain. However heavy giddiness and passed out is little concerning. please consult a physician and get thorough check up. You may wait for a week provided you are feeling better and dont get similar episodes in coming days.
I would suggest although you are getting better but still visit the doctor. Thanks.
