Lump On Side Of Neck, Head. Normal Blood Test. Non-itchy Rash, Painful. Poison Ivy?

Friday I noticed a lump on the side of my neck. Not painful, so I waited 'til today to see my doctor. Prior to my visit today I developed welt-like bumps also on my neck. I also have developed many more lumps on my head. The doctor today believes they are swollen lymph nodes. The rash she had no explanation of - especially when I answered no to her question of poison ivy. Blood test today was completely normal (white cell count). I now find out that my boyfriend has poison ivy - just developed today - from the golf course he believes. My question is that if this is poison ivy, and I have never had it before, is it possible that all these lumps are indeed swollen lymph nodes reacting to the poison ivy? My concern is that they are very painful - although the rash is not itchy. I have not taken any other-the-counter medicines, although was given a topical cream for the rash - Mupirocin Cream USP, 2%. Is there cause for concern because of the many lumps (lymph nodes?) that are swollen and are painful?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Poison ivy is not a contagious ,so don't concern about that.
Your doctor is right that these are enlarged lymph nodes.
Due to any type of infection over head ( scalp) like fungus, bacterial parasitic insects ,lymph nodes enlarged.
This is a defense mechanism of body to prevent spread of disease.
Now consult a Dermatologist and get his opinion.
Take treatment according to his advice.
Till you can wash your hairs with antiseptic soap.
Hope I have answered your question.
If further any question I will help.
