Hi My name is Amanda and I have Pityriasis Rosea. I had gotten it really bad last year and I am started getting again this year. I am scared it is going to get as bad as it did last year. Is there anything I can do to help make it not so torturing? I have tried several lotions, finally found one that doesnt make me feel like Im on fire!!! Please any info would help.
Classic Pityriasis rosea presents with scaly oval patches (scale is adherent at the periphery and loose in the center) oriented along the ribs and forming a christmus tree pattern.
The generalised rash is preceded by single or two mother patches (herald patch) and thereafter a generalised crop of lesion appears on the trunk and proximal extremities. There can be recurrent crops of new lesions while the old ones resolve.
I usually treat my patients of pityriasis rosea with a topical moderately potent steroid like mometasone twice daily for 2-4 weeks.
Some dermatologists also prescribe oral erythromycin 250mg thrice daily for 2-4 weeks for widespread eruptions.
An oral antihistamine once daily e.g cetrizine takes control of the itch
take care regards
