Tailbone Injury, Swelling In Lower Abdomen, Joints Pain. Is It A Fracture?

I tripped and fell backwards a week and half ago, really causing extreme pain in tailbone area, and cacus bones, but got up put salonpas pads ever since. But pain to sit, pain to climb, pain to bend, then and now. Hips hurt, also goes down my legs, into my female area even, swelling to lower abdomen when I try to do any of the above.. Very hard to go up stairs or bend without pain, sharp pain. Neighbor thought small fracture, I think bones fell out of normal joint area. What is it?? I need a doctor as many times I have such pain, I cry.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

As per your description, I suspect that you might have injured the coccyx (tail bone piece) resulting in COCCYDYNIA.

An xray of the sacrum will show up if there is any bony injury. An MRI scan is necessary to know the amount of soft tissue damage in that area.

The general recommendations for coccydynia are as follows -

* Sit completely upright with proper posture — keeping your back firmly against the chair, knees level with your hips, feet flat on the floor and shoulders relaxed
* Take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil)
* Apply heat or ice to the affected area
* Lean forward while sitting down
* Sit on a doughnut-shaped pillow or wedge (V-shaped) cushion
*Physical therapy involving strengthening of pelvic area muscles , stimulation with ultrasound therapy

If all the above measures fail to provide relief from pain, a local steroid injection may be helpful.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
