I have a lump under my arm, actually slightly lower than under the arm, just a little on the side ( Its hard to explain the exact position) It is about the size of a walnut, but I also have a bruise on the outer skin which is mostly purple and about the 3 inches long and 2 inches wide

Hi.
The lump which is long and wide with a purple skin on it has to be immediately investigated as this is not a normal thing to have , this is too large to be called a lymph node.
This can be a hemangioma.
Get this clinically checked and investigated by ultrasonography and whichever has been advised by your Doctor,.
