Will Diaphragmatic Hernia Effect Pregnancy ?

Hi i was taking duromine when I found out I'm now ppregnant.i was wondering how this will affect my pregnancy. also I'm probly around 5 or 6 weeks pregnant and already feeling movement I've been pregnant times before now. had an abortion the first had a perfect healthy baby secondly, third I lost at 22 weeks because he had a diaphragmatic hernia. and now this one. my tummy has also grown which hasn't happened this early before in any of my pregnancys and I'm wondering how likely it might be that I have twins. also my tummy has been tender to touch at times. I'm more sick than other times I've been pregnant. Thank you..

There is very little evidence regarding the exact effects of duromine in pregnancy, but it is generally recommended not to use it because of a potential for problems. Since you have stopped taking it as soon as you found out you are pregnant and it is very early on in pregnancy, there will most likely be no problems. Most diaphragmatic hernias are mild and will not affect your baby. Occasionally they will require surgical repair.

In extremely rare cases, they may lead to a pregnancy loss like the one you experienced. That is almost always when the hernia was not the only problem, but it was part of a congenital syndrome and the baby usually had several different problems, and the hernia was only one of them.

I have often seen that women tend to feel a little more bloated and pregnant early on in pregnancy when it is their second or third pregnancy, so I doubt that it indicates that there is any problem, and of course it is possible that you have twins, but the only way to find out if that is the case is by getting an ultrasound. Feeling more sick could be due to twins, or it could just be that this pregnancy is a little worse than the others. Every pregnancy is different, and we may never know why someone is more or less sick in one pregnancy over another.

So at this point, the only thing you can do is see your doctor for an ultrasound, stop the duromine, and stay healthy! Good luck! Please let me know if you have any more questions.
