I had strep throat (positive strep test) and was treated with Amoxicillin Thursday. Its now Monday and my sore throat has gone away (only hurts when I first wake up) but now I have a bad cough and still feel very very tired and sick (achy with what feels like a fever, some sinus pain, ear pain and runny nose). My sore throat is completely gone though. Is this common or should I be concerned? I did have pnuemonia a few years ago.
Understanding your concern. As per your query yes fever and ear pain after strep throat is very common as it leads to granular pharyngitis. Ear pain is due to infection in sinuses. Need not to panic about it. Do warm saline gargles. Sip on luke warm water. Hot milk with a pinch of turmeric boiled with it at bed time for 2-3 days. I would suggest you to take nasal decongestant sprays, antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. In case of mild fever you can take Calpol or paracetamol for relief as well as it will relieve throat pain too. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Maintain oral hygiene. Take proper course of antibiotics. Get blood tests done if required. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
