Would A HIV Infection Have Shown Up On The CBC?

Hi, I had a complete blood count exam as well as a physical exam and results came back normal. I am going to get a specific HIV test done to know my status . I m very nervous. Can I get some comfort from my CBC coming by normal. If I was infected would it have shown on test. I have not had any sexual contact for about 7 months. Please help

Thank you for query.CBC counts can give a clue towards HIV in the later stages of HIV infection. In the early stages it may be normal and will not help in diagnosis of HIV or ruling out HIV.Specific tests for HIV only give accurate diagnosis. If 7 months have passed post exposure ELISA test or tests for antibodies are conclusive for HIV diagnosis. You can get back for any clarifications with details.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and venereologist.

Hello, Thnx to contact us. If I am your treating doctor I would like to advice you that CBC does not rule out HIV. Only the specific test of HIV will give you the answer of having HIV or not. Even if you do not have sexual conatact from 7 month that doesnt mean you will not have HIV. If you have anything else to ask please contact me. Thanx. Dr. Arun Tank

Hello, Thnx to contact us. If I am your treating doctor I would like to advice you that CBC and HIV testing both are very different thing. CBC result has nothing influence on the HIV result. If you have exposed to HIV before seven month you will be positive with it, even if you have not exposed to it with in seven months.
If you have anything else to ask please contact me. Thanx. Dr. Arun Tank

Thank you for query.CBC does not indicate about the HIV status .if it is normal it is good.it can be altered in the late stages and not in the initial stages .as your duration is just 7 months it is unlikely to show any modifications.so you have to go for specific HIV tests for antibody now from a accredited laboratory .You can get back for any clarifications with details.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and venereologist
