Will Vitamin Or Mineral Deficiency With Iron Levels Cause Unusual Sensation In Legs?

I have a medical question regarding my husband. He had sudden onset of an unusual sensation in his right leg. It felt, he said, like hot water running down his leg. It has continued off and on for several weeks and was limited to that one leg. The past couple of weeks, he now has a very faint/mild version of the same sensation also in his left leg. These sensations are intermittent, but have continued. He appears to have no reflexes in his right knee and right ankle. Left appears to be fine. There are no other symptoms outside of general muscle tightness. He is healthy overall, but does have Hereditary Hemachromotosis for which he receives regular therapeutic phlebotomies. Is it possible that something metabolic, i.e. a vitamin or mineral deficiency or an issue with his iron levels could cause these symptoms? Thank you!

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible it may be a deficiency in vitamin b12 or folate. A deficiency in one of these can cause neuropathy which is abnormal function of the peripheral nerves.

Other causes are diabetes, trauma to the nerves eg from surgery or arthritis to the spine, liver or kidney disease, infections such as shingles, thyroid disease.

He should consider blood tests such as vitamin levels, diabetes screening ,thyroid screening.

Imaging of the spine may also be needed.

There are medications that may be able to help.

I hope this helps
