Will Thyroid Cause Fluctuation In The Body Temperature?

hi;i am wondering if low body temperature has to do with thyroid function. i am 34 years old; and i have been feeling tired and gaining weight fast. even when i try to lose weight i can t lose much. so i was reading about hypothyroidism and started taking my body temperature. at rising it was 97.6 and in the evening it was 97.3. around 10pm i am usually very cold body temp around 97.3 and around 3am or so i wake up with hot flashes but haven t tested that body temperature yet. my blood test in the past shows normal t3 ,ft4 TSH levels; however i do have a benign thyroid nodule that isn't growing. could that be a factor? thanks

Endocrinologist 's  Response

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

The normal thyroid hormonal results exclude the thyroid as the cause of your symptoms.

The nodule represents a structural problem that in your case does not interfere with the function.

As long as the TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 are within the normal ranges, it may not cause general symptoms but if the nodule grows up and compresses the structures nearby it may cause difficulty in swallowing or cough.
Hope i have been clear, do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
