Hello,
Provera or medroxy-progesterone acetate cannot by itself cause an abortion. Though, it is true that the use of progesterones in early pregnancy is of doubtful use when there is no real necessity because an abortion may usually be due to a defective embryo and hence cannot be avoided. Exposure to the medication in the first trimester of pregnancy can lead to hypospadias in the male or virilization of a female fetus. The symptoms experienced by your wife could be due to the hormone. Please confirm pregnancy through a blood test and a trans-vaginal sonogram before planning further management. Hope this helps.
