Will Not Washing The Dog Bite Within 12 Hours Lead To Complications?
Hello, i met with a dog bite which is a stray dog in the early hours but I didn t was my wound as I was on journey and also didn t get vaccinated immediately I got vaccinated after 12 hours and following the dosage... I already met with a dog bite two months ago and it s a domestic pet and got vaccinated.. Is it a problem as I I didn t wash the wound and got vaccination after 12 Hours and as it s the second time please reply soon became I m very very tensed
It is recommended to wash the wound with plenty of water after a dog bite. This is to remove any extra bacteria and reduce the risk of infection. Even it is 12 hours since the bite, you may try to wash it now with plenty of water.
Other than washing the wound it is important to consider vaccination for tetanus infection and rabies infection as well. Because this was a stray dog and it is not known the status of its health, it is always best to be cautious.
Both tetanus and rabies prophylaxis should be started as soon as possible and 12 hours is still a good time so please talk with your doctor and discuss the need for both of these vaccines.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
