Will Marijuana Consumption Cause Swollen Salivary Glands?

Hi, I have a prescription for marijuana due to glaucoma and after I consumed some marijuana last night, I began to fell pain right below the left side of my jaw and I immediately noticed that my salivary gland (I knew it was that because I had a parotitis 5 years ago) was swollen. Is it possible that perhaps the marijuana consumption has caused my salivary gland to be swollen

Hi,

Marijuana causes dry mouth by decreasing the salivary flow. Dry mouth leads to gingivitis, dental caries, bad odour from the mouth, etc. Xerostomia is the term used to describe dry mouth. Swollen salivary gland may be due to secondary infection from the oral cavity. Poor oral hygiene following dry mouth may provoke the condition. Antibiotic therapy may be prescribed for bacterial infections. Take plenty of fluids, maintaining oral hygiene helps you prevent the side effects of the drug. Consult the physician for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
