Will Dessicated Thyroid Medicine Help Better Than Levothyroxine?

I was diagnosed with Hashimotisthyroiditis in 1986 - and am on 125mcg of levothyroxine daily- My temp in the A.M is still avg 96.8 - I have heard about desiccated thyroid meds - how do I get these and do you think they would help better than the levothyroxine? Thanks Fern (50yr old female- plus about 40lbs overweight) need help

Hi,

Desiccated thyroid medications are from animal source. Currently armour thyroid is available (pig source). It is not superior to synthetic thyroxine. Its based on patient preference.
