Will A High Altitude Area Cause Ringing In The Ears & Loud Sounds?

I have a chronic ringing in the ears, hyper sensitive to loud sounds. stiff neck that re-occures with sometime headach and dizzyness. We moved from Riverside, CA to Prescott AZ almost 4 months ago. I was wondering if the higher altitude is causing it or something else?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of ringing in the ears and loud sounds which are pointing towards a condition known as ETD that is eustachian tube dysfunction. Eustachian tube is a small tube that connects middle ear to oral cavity and balance the pressure between the two. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Your doctor will examine your ear canals and eardrums, and your nasal passages and the back of your throat. Doctor may recommend you few exercises like blowing air with closed nose and mouth ,swallowing, yawning or chewing gum . Doctor may also prescribe decongestant to reduce the swelling of the lining of the tubes , antihistamine and antibiotics . Doctor may also implanting pressure equalization tubes .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
