Will Meclizine Help Dry Up Fluid In The Inner Ear?
I was prescribed meclizine 25 mg by ER doctor yesterday morning for Vertigo. He suspects caused by fluid in my ear but not infected (either from 3 week ago garage bump possible concussion on my head or more likely residual fluid from recent viral infection that I was taking meds from at same time. Yesterday I took 2 x and slept most of day and night. Today systems almost gone and have not taken. Should I take this tonight to help dry up the fluid in my ear? or should I not take at all if not really needed? YYYY@YYYY
Meclizine is used to help with dizziness that comes in the conditions that you prescribe (due to the inner ear problems.)
It "numbs" the receptors that sense the movements and make the patient less sensitive to them and have less dizziness. It does not affect the fluid in the inner ear, it just brings symptom relief.
If it is causing you to be very drowsy please take it at night, try to take it only at night for some days and then you can try to increase to twice a day. The dose is 25-100 mg a day depending on the response so you may try to have only 25 mg (once a day) first.
If you find it keeps you drowsy and alters your ability to handle the day, you will need to let your doctor know. You have to be very cautious especially if you have to drive or do activities that require good concentration.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
