Why Was The Heart Blockage Not Detected In TMT And Other Tests?

Hi, a close friend, aged 39, recently passed away following a sudden cardiac arrest. He had apparently passed a TMT and lipid profile check only six months ago. It was found that he had a 100% block in his heart and despite the emergency angioplasty, he didn't make it. My question therefore is: how come this block escaped the TMT and other tests? I am scheduled to go for a TMT next week, and I'm wondering if it is any indicator at all! Thanks Kay

Dear Kay,
TMT has up to 80% sensitivity of detecting coronary artery disease. Nut it is not excluded that he developed the problem during six months or acutely with thrombus during hours.
Actually it is very rare case which happened with your friend, as usually CAD detects when patient refers to doctor.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health

Cardiologist Dr. Sukhvinder Singh's  Response
Dear Sir / Madam
Thanks for your query.
1. TMT test only tells you about presence of current significant blocks in your arteries. Those blocks which will cause hindrance to blood flow whenever there is increased demand for blood. It does not tell you anything about blocks which are there but below threshold. and unfortunately , most heart attacks develop on the plaques which are below threshold. In heart attacks, the blood clot develops over the blocks/ plauques and cause complete occlusion. That's why TMT does not predicts/ rules out future heart attack. It will tell only and only about the current status of significant plaques.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder
