Why There Is Swelling On My Neck?

Have swelling in back of left side of head and left side of neck. I have at times a minor Sore throat on left side. When I press on my neck or lower back of left neck, I hear popping sounds. Swelling is not noticable, but can feel it when touched. My MD referred me to an ENT specialist, but I have to wait one month!

Hello,
Thank your your question on HCM.

I understand your concern.

First of all, there is nothing to worry. Swelling is due to throat infection. The swelling which you are talking about is nothing but enlarged lymph node. Whenever there is infection, draining lymph nodes of that area will get enlarged.

In your case, I expect swelling to disappear once the throat infection is cleared. But, keep watching for any changes in the swelling like increase in size, tenderness, redness etc. I suggest you to consult a ENT specialist if the swelling has not disappeared even after throat infection is gone.

Take care.

You can always contact me for any further query. I'll be happy to help.

Regards,
Dr. Prathap Kumar
