Why The Fasting Glucose In The Morning Is Always High For Me?

Hello I am a 67 years old male, diabetic. I have had diabetes since the age of 45. I am currently on glipizide (minidiab) pills 5mg. I take one at lunch time and half a pill (2.5mg) at supper time, total 7.5 mg/daily. My glucose level two hours after eating ranges from 4.8-7 but my fasting glucose in the morning is always high between 8-10.5. What can be done about this? Should I change my medication dosages or replace the medication I am taking with another. I am an active person. I try to do speed walking/ 2 or 3 times a day for 15-20 min. I have stopped smoking 7 years ago. I smoked for about 27 years prior to that. Kindly give me your advice. thank you

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear sir i can understand your concern.
i am very happy to see that your after food blood sugar are well under-control.
in my opinion controlling fasting sugar is very important and it needs a slight change in medication.
i suggest you to discuss regarding usage of metformin with your doctor. metformin is a very good medication and helps to maintain your weight also.
life style changes what you adapted like stopping smoking and doing exersise are very important in having healthy life.
