Why My Daughter Is Having Neck Pain Due To Pressure From The Back Of The Skull?

My oldest daughter and I are trying to figure out how the skull is attached to the C1. She has had problems with her skull not having enough room for her brain and has to have surgery on this. The bottom of the back of the skull presses down onto her neck causing a great deal of pain. We do not understand what this means and I cannot get any answers from just googling the question.

Hi, Your daughter is having arnold chiari malformation type i which is characterized by herniation of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum into the cervical spinal canal.
This is also associated with cv junction anomalies and syringomyelia.
She needs surgery in the form of posterior decompression to relieve symptoms.
Thanks
