Why Is Hyperthermic Induced Coma Necessary After A CPR?

My sister-in-law was undergoing a heart ablation when the heart stopped and they had to do CPR on her.She is still in surgery or just out, however they are afrain of brain damage due to lack of oxygen and she has been placed or will be placed in a hyperthermic induced coma for 24-36 hrs. Is this to let the brain heal or restore itself?

Hi I read your query very carefully.

They have inducted hypothermic coma to lower the brain damage because brain resist more to heart attack induced hypoxia during hypothermia.

Wish her a quick recovery!
