Heart Rate (HR) abruptly increases due to 3 main reasons: 1. Fight 2. Flight 3. Freight In these situations catecholamine levels increases and ultimately increases the HR above the normal. Continuous increased HR is called tachycardia and it's a serious medical illness which can cause high blood pressure and heart problems. If it is chronic (old - more than two weeks), it needs immediate attention. See your doctor at your earliest.
