hi, i am at 24 weeks pregnant , and took a blood and urine test as scheduled for the trimester. In my urine culture sensitivity test, the smear report states Occasional pus cells, gram negative bacilli and gram positive bacilli seen and scanty growth of urethral commensals seen. What does it mean

Hello,

Bacteria in urine is not a normal finding if the count is more than a certain level (>100000). Even if you don't have any symptoms but your count is more than the specific level you may need treatment to prevent complications. Penicillins, Cephalosporins or Fosfomycin antibiotics can be safely taken. If possible do a blood test to check for diabetes

Repeat urine culture following treatment is not required. Repeat treatment is also not required if bacteria is detected on repeat screening. Kindly update with the culture and sensitivity report of urine so that i can guide you better with the required medicines.
